A lot of signs point to an iPhone 4 refresh this September (4S), with a complete redesign in the iPhone 5 sometime next year. AT&T is in the process of buying T-Mobile, so its quite possible you’ll see them carry one. Not sure about Sprint, although there’s been talk about a non-subsidized price model and a combined CDMA/UMTS ‘world mode’ antenna, which means you can take it to whatever carrier you like.

CDMA phones can not be unlocked to use on another carrier they can be flashed and evn that might not be possible. Knowing Apple it will not even be flashable
CDMA phones use ESN and MEID numbers they do not have IMEI

I’ve decided to go ahead and get the iphone 4. i know its been out for a while, but I’ve been hearing that the Iphone 5 wont have too many “to-die-for” new features, so ill buy the iphone 4. then once the iphone 6 comes out, ill get that because its supposedly going to have the whole 4g LTE deal. now the question is…white or black?! i cant decide…HELP. I’ve heard the connection problem is fixed with the white too. sooo let me know what you know – facts and oppinions

The white shows dirt and scratches worse then the black and to make the plastic black try taken out some of the integrity making it weaker and susceptible to cracking

I am planning to buy a smartphone this weekend. It will be my first and I am think I will be using it for email , facebook etc, taking pics ,music and browsing the web when needed . Maybe more in the future that I will know. I am not really what one would call a tech savvy person. These phones all have features that seem attractive :

Htc inspire : 4G network , 8 megapixel camera but may be too complex for me.

Samsung Focus : seems user friendly but I am concerned about what some people have to say abt its lack of features

Iphone4 : looks good,seems user friendly , lots of apps. But if I buy now I dont want my phone to be outdated when the new improved Iphone 5 comes out soon.

Samsung Focus runs Windows Phone 7 which is center around multimedia and social work experience. The people hub integrate Facebook right into your phone book and provide status update. The phone has a camera button which allow you to take photos without unlocking your phone. The Zune media player import all the information about the song including the artist background, song information, and related song information. Email is very easy to use thanks it its simplistic looking design, yet allow me to delete multiple emails at once: a must have feature for me.

It is true that Windows Phone 7 lack some of the features that Android has, such as tethering, but the simplistic and well designed nature that makes Windows Phone 7 easy to use more than makes up for them.

Overall, if you want a smartphone that’s easy to use: this is your phone.

IPod Touch, iPad or iPhone?

Ok im not a fanboy, the only apple thing i own is an ipod touch 1g which is falling apart lol, this is why i need something new. Here are some reasons why i would lime each certain device:

Ipod touch 4g:

i think it looks great and would be a perfect replacement for my current ipod touch.
The white version is amazing!
Same specs as iphone 4

ipad:
packed with features
looks good
lots of fun
amazing for journeys

Iphone:

all features of a phone (again, i need a new one.)
looks amazing
portable internet
millions of features

Its all the latest models except the iphone, it would be the original 4. Why? The new one is like 1 sec faster and is not worth the extra money. And i get a free upgrade when the 5 comes out

Please dont tell me to spend MY money on other things (yes i am paying) and i am only getting one for now, one more in future.

APPLE IPAD 2 is great sleeve. It has a smooth rubber feel. It keeps the sides of the screen protector from lifting. The one I was sent actually DOESN’T cover the mic. Maybe they made some modifications. I can’t believe how inexpensive the case is. I don’t see what the negative reviews are talking about. It’s just a piece of smooth rubber intended to protect the back of the iPad from getting scratched. I’m sure I’ll have to replace it in the next few years to come, just cause of wear and tear. If you have a “Smart Cover”, you can still get use out it. I usually don’t use the smart cover if I have it on my lap, but the magnets still work through the rubber case, and I keep it on when I put it in my case. You can still fold up the smart cover to use for typing.

So the cheapest plan for the iphone is $59.99 for 450 minutes. I only need 30 minutes! How can I get a 30 minutes plan??? First off, you should choose a service provider: AT&T or T-Mobile. AT&T is the way to go, simply because T-Mobile service requires you to jailbreak, or hack, the iPhone for networks other than AT&T. AT&T offers plans for $59.99, $79.99, $99.99, and $119.99. The $59.99 plan has the least minutes offered: 450. To avoid huge, ridiculous prices, you must choose one of these plans. When you purchase iPhone, you activate on your computer through iTunes, so the computer prompts you to fill out account information and you must purchase one of these plans. I am not familiar with T-Mobile, but I do know that hacking could disable the phone and you will be charged a lot more than the average AT&T customer would pay. 3. Yes, you can go on MSN. You just need to download the free app.

4. It pretty much is the same as the iPhone, but without calling, messaging and 3G Internet.

5. Yes, I think it’s suitable for a 12 year old girl.

6. The speed of the Internet can depend on your connection.

7. It’s very easy to operate. Apple make it really simple.

8. Yes 8GB is enough. You’ll just have to delete stuff and put stuff back on when you run out of space. Basically, you back it up with iTunes on the computer, then you can delete/add stuff any time. So you could delete a movie, but then add it back on if you want to use it.

And remember, a lot of Apps are free. You just need to search for them on the App Store and you may be able to find it. Like the Facebook App.

Just wondering how much would a iphone cost without a contract, i don’t need to have a 3g one. But could you list al the possible prices? I’m not sure which phone to get, i most likely won’t get the internet on my phone. I am 11 years old and i just need a phone for convenience, i don’t need any business help. These are the phones i’m choosing from, Iphone, very fun but having lack many features. The Nokia e71, very sexy looking phone but with no touch so not as fun and not as good looking digitally like Iphone, for business uses commonly. But still is a option. Still not as good looking the omnia, i’m not talking about the i900 but the i908, the new one you could buy in Hong Kong. Just search it up on Google, you’ll find news on it, the camera is gody- 5 mega pixels and a face detection. I think this is a very good phone and very good features, but not as good looking and thin as the iphone. When ever i hear about the phones being better then the iphone, i don’t like the iphone anymore, but then when i see a iphone in rogers, and play around with it i get addicted. So i’m not sure and could you help me please? I’m only 12, so business doesn’t matter to much i just need there right decision, please help.

DO NOT get an iPhone… Unless you want to pay apple for everything. Its just a computer that allows you to ring people. I hate the thing. It doesnt do much unless you have money to buy everything from apple. Nokia is the best. I regret not getting the nokia! As for prices… I am not sure about the cost. Im on a cap.

This quesiton doesnt make sense. The iPhone 3G and 3GS are more expensive than the iTouch 2G. If i am you, i would by the new 3GS because it can do everything an i Touch 2G and an iPhone 3G can do except more

Ipod touch 2G – Plays songs, videos, music, games, etc, no phone, no text, no surfing the web 24/7. You can text and call for free on the iTouch using apps called SKYPE and TEXTFREE, but you need wifi . Looks nice and thin and simple with volume button on the side like the iPhone. Has speakers wher you plug in the headphones.
IPhone 3G – comes in black and white, exact same thing as the iTouch except you can call and text and surft the web if you have the service. You can insert your own SIM into it, you can take pictures, take videos, and yea. Thers a vibrate on and off button on top of the volume buttons. The whole iPhone package also comes with an extra wall charger than the iTouch doesnt come with.
IPhone 3GS- exact same thing as the iPhone 3G except new features like faster system, most powerful iPhone yet, better quality camera, and you can edit the videos and all that stufff. Everything loads faster on the iPHone 3GS and bluetooth. Same button layout as the iPhone 3G.

3.Lets they if I buy the Iphone 3g or Iphone3gs, if I don’t connected to a phone service is it still going to work as a ipod?
If you dont connect to a service, itll be a normal iPod Touch except alot coolor because you ahve the camera. Itll just say No Sim where the service is supposed to be.

4.In your opinion, which one is better? (of the 3)
In my opinion i think the iPhone 3GS is the best because i own one.
I have owned the iTouch 1G and 2G and the iPhone 3G, and i lke the 3GS the best because of the fact it is new, and is better than my 3G which is almost the same thing

5.What are the pros and cons of each one (list please)?
Ipod Touch 2G – Pros: Thin, looks sexy, has the mic compatibilty unlike the 1G iTouch, you can make free calls using SKYPE and free texts using TEXTFREE, you can play games on it
Cons: cant go on the internet 24/7, you need wifi for it, cant make textrs and calls everywhere, doesnt have camera, cant take videos, no vibrator xD the wifi on the 2G seems to be less powerful than the 1G
iPhone 3G – pros, slick, thinner than iPhone 2G, has camera, can take photos and videos, has a vibrater, you dont have to have a SIM card to use it, u can use it like a normal iTouch, comes in two colors
cons : i dont see any cons in this magnificent little gadget.
IPhone 3GS- pros: faster than ever, 16GB and 32GB, (same as the 3G)
basically same as the 3G except the apps load faster than the 3G, bluetooth, and yea. More powerful

I noticed that the iTouch 2G’s wifi is less powerful than the 1G. I had a 1G ever since it came out and i could connect to many places. When i got the 2G, the wifi signal significantly dropped and i couldnt get wifi in the normal places i could with my 1G
you can use the iPhone like an iTouch if you dont have a SIM card. I woud think you have a phone, you can unlock the iPhone and put that SIM card into the phone and use it. You dont need a new plan. You can also jailbreak the iPhone, or iTouch and get lots of free games from the appstore

Mobile All-in-One Tablet/Smartphone Replacement for Flip Phone and Laptop?

I’m in the market for an all-in-one tablet/phone device so I can ditch my primitive flip phone and also perform all of the basic things my 17.3”, 8 pound laptop can do, but on a more portable scale. Although I have a few devices in mind (iPod Touch, iPhone, Viewsonic G Tablet, Viewsonic ViewPad 7), I’ve done research and have come up with a list of features that I’m looking for:

(1) Relatively fast (In your recommendations, take into consideration some of the ROMs I could install such as Vegan and CyanogenMod that would dramatically increase speed.)
(2) Less Expensive than a Budget Laptop (<$450. I’m also willing to buy used or refurbished devices, so if you’re going to recommend a more recent generation of the iPod Touch or iPad, for instance, do it only if it has notably better features, other than just being new.)
(3) Covered by Square Trade Warranty (I’m fairly sure that ST doesn’t care about jail-broken or modified tablets/phones, but let me know otherwise. I know that there are also a lot of great deals on refurb/used phones on places like Newegg.com, but I don’t really know about their warranty coverage compared to Square Trade’s.)
(4) Released before 11-08/Doesn’t Require Data Plan (I live on a university campus, so I plan on using the fee wifi here. I’ve also read that any phones released after November, 2008 are required to have a data plan. I don’t know if this is true for all carriers though, and I’m also unsure of this policy on used phones released after that date sold on Ebay.)
(5) Intuitive Texting (This goes especially for touchpad keyboards.)
(6) Many (free) Downloadable Utility Apps (I’ve heard that Android and Apple products each have a lot of apps in their store, so I don’t know if this would be a deal-breaker. One specific app I would like to have is a decent voice recording app, the reason for which you’ll see below.)
(7) Free/low-cost Texting and Calling Capabilities (This applies to both receiving and sending. I wouldn’t mind using multiple apps to achieve this, either such as Groove IP, Line2, Sipgate, Nimbuzz, Google Voice, Talkatone, etc. This feature also depends on my best option to satisfy (8) below. I’m also taking into consideration the size of the device. After all, it’s a lot easier to text and call on a smaller device, but that might come at the cost of other features, such as viewing and typing 300+ word documents and also the ability to use it in class without getting reprimanded for appearing like I’m texting instead of taking notes.)
(8) Working, Convenient Microphone (I’m willing to buy a Bluetooth or 2-in-1 headset if there is no built-in microphone or microphone jack available. I don’t know how the Bluetooth would work if I suddenly had to put it in take a call from someone, though. I would also really like to have the microphone be useful for picking up voices several feet away so I could record lectures, casual conversations, etc. Some of the clip-on microphones/headsets from Amazon look promising enough.)
(9) Superb Customer Satisfaction Overall

Wow. That’s a long list… I will sum it up by giving you what I use. An iPhone 4 and a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

The iPhone 4 is fast and works wonderfully out of the box.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is for everything else that the iPhone cannot do. For example, viewing Flash related websites. It will do 80% of what you can do on your laptop.
The iPhone is to complement it with speed and mobility.

I want to purchase an iPhone 4 but then the retail price is too expensive. When the iPhone 5 comes out , how much do you think the older iPhone 4 will cost? Thinking logically, the price will most likely drop once the newer version comes out, however many companies plan for this and don’t drop the price until a little while afterwards.

It kind of depends on how their sales are. If people continue to buy the iPhone 4 at the price it was before, they probably won’t lower it, but if people aren’t, they will.

The Verizon iPhone is about to come out and I know the iPhone 5 will be coming out later this year, but does anyone have any advice as to whether or not I should wail? Ever since the very first iPhone has come out, I have wanted one desperately.
It was not until this winter that my parents finally agreed to get me an iPhone for christmas, but I decided to wait until it came out on Verizon. And now, the day has come, the iPhone 4 is coming to Verizon, but it’s not LTE. CDMA can’t do voice and data at the same time, which is inconvenient. However, it IS finally on Verizon, they fixed* the antenna, they threw in a cool hotspot feature, and I’ve been waiting for over 4 years now for an iPhone. In addition, my plan with AT&T expired this week, so I am (luckily) not tied into a contract with them anymore. However, should I continue to pay month by month for my simplistic slide phone that only has the capabilities to make calls and send text messages until the iPhone 5 comes out in the summer? Or should I go ahead and buy my iPhone I’ve so long craved?

Why not wait for an iphone 6? The speed at which technology advances means the phone you purchase today will be out-dated in no more than six months.

You’ve been wanting one for so long and haven’t done the research? Get an iphone. Be tied to Big Brother Itunes for all of your music (for a fee), files, ringtones, etc.

Get a phone that allows no user interface customization, upgradable memory, or battery. No Adobe Flash, or Java, for the internet. No downloading (saving) YouTube videos. No true multi-tasking. The list goes on and on.

If/when you switch to Verizon, check out any of the android phones. Read reviews comparing them to the iphone.

If there is one, it will almost definitely be in June/July, as the last 4 iPhone have been released then. I believe a WWDC has already been scheduled by Apple for one of those monthes.
As to if an iPhone 5 will be unveiled – It’s looking unlikely, as many trusted sources have said that it will be a software conference (iOS5) rather than a hardware conference (iPhone 5)

I’m upgrading my phone and I’m going with iPhone. The thing is, there are only rumors out about the iPhone 5, no actual information about the iPhone 5 coming out in October. Plus even if it is out in October, aren’t iPhones always released later in Canada? And even when they are released don’t they sell out everywhere right away making you wait even longer for it?

I’m in a similar situation to you but I lost my iphone 3gs on a night out so I was debating on whether I should get an iphone 4. I have decided to get a cheap PAYG Nokia phone (£20) which will do me for a month or so until the iphone 4 comes out in mid September. The iphone 5 will arrive in both white and black and it apparrently will have a larger screen, be much thinner and more durable with a metal back casing (iphone 4 glass screen cracks easily )not to mention have better camera and video capabilities. Why buy an iphone 4 when the prices are still really high you will just be wasting your money and then will lose money in resell value. The iphone 5 will certainly be worth the wait in my opinion anyway. Only get an iphone 4 if you can get it for under 350 pounds otherwise I think wait

Endgadget had mentioned that the iPhone 5 will be a total rethink. And there are many rumors about what it will look like at what it will do. Steve Jobs has done a much better job keeping things under wraps (compared to the iPhone 4). I`d wait for the iPhone 5. You will be getting better features for the same minimum of 200$. As for the small iPhone question, some people say that apple will come out with an iPhone nano. But many websites i`ve researched have cited Apple execs that this is not true. As for apple tradition, the iPhone 5 will be just about the same size as iPhone 4, but faster(A5 Processor) and lighter.(Most Likely). There is also a chance it will be more grippier for your hand.

I am so feeling your pain. I have used the ever evolving Apple operating system since the 1980s. Due to location, I have not had the iPhone available to me. It is so painful to have one set (calendar-contacts-notes-to dos and etc.) of data on my mobile os, and another set with the desktop/laptop.

However, “in a minute” the next generation will be out. It sure seems to me that Apple will have further time for R and D as Verizon/iPhone early adapters provide the feedback.

I have been impressed time and again over the years (since Apple II) at how Apple works to get it right, better … With amazing hardware.

It’s killing me but I’m gonna try to wait it out!

Sadly when the iphone first came out it was an att exclusive since apple had no power in the mobile world and they were asking carriers to do unpresedented things like force users into data plans, and att was the one who took a risk and agreed to carry the phone. Verizon was actuly apples first choice but they passed on it. I think it’s great if it does come out for Sprint. I really hope Apple invests in making one phone that’s compatible (pentaband gsm and cdma) with all 4 major US carriers since that will give their customers options when it comes to choosing a carrier rather than releasing a version for each carrier making the device useless if the person leaves the carrier. And I think Sprint could really benefit from this since they do have amazing plans compared to att and verizon. They could offer one of the most popular devices with the best service deal outthere.

Nobody knows, I’ve been waiting quite some time for it too since I need a phone. I’m guessing around September – November, November at latest. People have been saying the iPhone 5 will cost around the same as the iPhone 4.

Would the future Verizon iPhone 5 support grandfathering?

I know that Verizon is gonna cap its data plans as well come this summer. My mom can’t decide whether to get a Verizon iPhone 4 or wait for the 5. She currently has unlimited data and can keep it with the iPhone 4. If she waits for the iPhone 5 and Verizon isn’t offering unlimited data anymore when it does come out, will she keep unlimited data when she gets it or will she be forced into choosing a limited data plan?

Administrator answers:

No one knows and Verizon isn’t saying. However, if you read the various statements that Verizon has put out about tiered data, it really doesn’t sound like they intend to grandfather unlimited plans.

Typically, I advise people to wait for the new iPhone. In your mother’s case, I’d advise seriously considering the 4 because of the data plan.

Alright so my T-mobile contract expires August 24, but I want to switch to Verizon when the Iphone 5 comes out which may come out in September (hopefully), what if it comes out September 7 and I decide to port my current T-mobile number right then, would I have to pay a fee T-mobile and also would I still have to pay my final bill to T-mobile?

Once your contract is up with T Mobile then you will not have to pay any early termination fees. When the new version of the I Phone comes out then it is always hard to get a hold off sometimes for weeks if not months after the release. Since you would be on a month to month contract with T Mobile then all you would have to pay is your final bill which should not be that much. I just read the news paper that stated Sprint’s I Phones 5 will be out Oct. 15th. Their plans are alot cheaper so I wanted to include that. I hope that this helps.

I am an existing Verizon Wireless customer. I own a Droid X but I am not satisfied with the phone. Apple usually releases a new iPhone every June. But I am very impatient. Well they say that the iPhone 5 is just a refurbished version of the iPhones 4 (it will not have 4G that is for sure), they “solved” the antenna problem and add a few updates, but like always the “next generation” of iPhone is almost the same. My best is just get the iPhone 4 in Verizon, at least it will not have a fail network.

Apple will never top the Android phones while it insists on using old technology. The iPhone derivatives gain changes as they progress but the base operating system will always be slower then the Android system.

Not much is known about the iPhone 5 right now. Anything anyone, including myself, says is just speculation.

I’d say there is a 60/40 chance the iPhone 5 may have 4G. Apple looks like it is developing a GSM/CDMA version of the next iPhone so both will be the same for both networks.

If you have 4, you will be in good position to either buy or wait.

You may want to look into features iphone4 has. It has many people rarely use. It can tell how high it is, so you can play games(apps) that see if you are exercising right, and compare it to your friends. Kinds of like Nintendo Wii Sport.

It has one of the best GPS receivers ever. Its light, can DL a variety of maps through special apps, and can show you where you are even when out of range of 3G towers…. Pretty cool heh. Try it.

The little flash can function as a flashlight. Cute.

Look up find my iphone app(free). It tells you how to make it so you can FIND your iphone if you lost it. (it will use GPS to locate it and tell it to you.)

whatever iphone 5 will have, remember, #6 will have a brand new set of boom booms.

That sums it up really. Should I pick up the Atrix now or wait for the Galaxy S II. I’m currently using an iPhone 3G and it’s time to upgrade.

Unfortunately, It all depends on how long you want to wait. I need to upgrade as well, and am planning to get the Atrix 4g but it seems as if phones will update by then.

However, rumors are that Samsung Galaxy S 2 is going to be on Tmobile, so that might not be something to look forward to.

Well, my birthday is September 7th and was planning on getting an Iphone 4, but hearing rumors that Apple will make an announcement on the exact day of my birthday is making me wonder if i should wait for the Iphone 5. When visiting phone shops they advised to just get the Iphone 4 as the features are not that different from the 5? Any advice on that? Anyway I would probably wait until the end of September for the Iphone 5 , but no longer as i desperately want one , but still i would regret if i get one , and it comes out a month later . I would be overly happy with the Iphone 4 , i’m not doubting that, but it would be so frustrating seeing everyone with an Iphone 5 when i just got the 4… And plus , I’m not overly patient either and i could be waiting a long time for it to come out , and I’ll be waking up to no presents because all i want is the Iphone , is it worth the wait, or should i just get one? I think you should definitely and undoubtedly wait for the iPhone 5 coming in the end of September. If you get carried away by your excitement and get the 4, you are going to miss on a lot of stuff such as a much better and smarter look/design, better display, probably an 8mp camera, A5 processor and a lot of other stuff. Trust me, wait for 23 more days and you will be much more fulfilled than buying the 4.

I am planning to buy the iPhone 5 once it’s release Oct 14, and I want to trade in my iPhone 3GS to Amazon fro up to $238. Once the trade in is placed I have 7 days to send it in, meaning i’m stuck with an old non-smart phone from then until the iPhone 5 comes out. I’m worried if I wait to long, until after the announcement is made Oct 4 the trade-in value on Amazon will go down. When is the best time to submit it so I can minimize my time without and iPhone while getting the most money out of it?

It’s best if you sell now because once the iphone 5 comes out the price will IMMEDIATELY drop. So If you sell it now , it probably the maximum price you can get . The iphone 4 price sell in will maybe be hihger though but were not talking about that.

But knowing phone companies , they say it released on a specific date when really its out on a completely different date . So you also have that risk for having a non-smartphone for longer but you can live with that?

Is the iPhone really coming to sprint?

Last month I saw on the the news that the iPhone will be coming to Sprint & Verizon but I cannot find anything online from Sprint confirming the announcement just a lot of “rumors”…I even contacted several friends who all confirmed they saw the same announcement on the news. FYI – I cannot afford to cancel with Sprint considering I have 5 lines and AT&T had screwed up my billing way too many times when I had them years ago and they still can’t beat Sprints plans now for the price.
