If it’s a pre-exam, they’re probably looking to find out what you know or what level you’re at. So, YOU need to answer the questions or their evaluation of you will be skewed.

Mandy asks…
How does Sun Microsystems make money out of Java?
All the components required to make a Java application are provided free of cost by Sun. Then, how does it make money out of it. I am developing a Swing Java SE application, and I find that the Java Development Kit (JDK), Netbeans IDE and the Java DB aka Derby database are provided free of charge. So, I am not paying a penny to Sun, yet I am able to make a professional Java application.
Does it earn money through training or certification?

Administrator answers:
Excellent question, and I’ve not been able to find a sure answer to it.
There are parallels with Linux (all the different flavours of it) which are also free, being Open Source. The actual development of these is done free, too, by interested volunteers. Companies then can sell it on for money, the money being for training, technical support, and additional features or front ends they put on.
The regular users in the Programming section would know more about it. Ask the question again there,or in Computers – general. Some of them may have had experience with paid services related to Java. Maybe for large enterprise versions, they DO charge?

How can i get an audience with David Filo and/or his executives?
I invented a super low cost GPS (if not free, how can it be done you say, get me an appointment with them and I will cut you in), along with a long/lat driven SQL database that has a great “conceptional” fit with the new Yahoo services: tagging, local business development, consumer travel, directions and mapping, child safety, NO privacy concerns.
Guaranteed that you are found ONLY when you or yours wants to be found or needs something. This GPS has been designed to be delivered to the masses so everyone could have the benefits of satellite travel, ultimately leading to less oil dependency and a realistic reduction in emissions, outside the Global Warming controversy, how can you argue with either. The satellites are there anyways why not put them to work for everyone. This is no bs, if I have to cut off my ear to prove it I will.
This pulls a lot of things together, from virtual to reality. Yahoo could use the shot in the arm too!!

Administrator answers:
It’s just my opinion but I think it’s too low. You need to figure out how long this will take you to do and how much you want to make per hour. If it’s going to take you 15-20 hours to do, then $125 doesn’t seem too good. If you can knock it out in about 5 hours, then it’s pretty good.

If you meet a high enough wall, do you have to stick with yahoo?
You’ll can keep plugging away at looking for other potential allies until you find one. Persistence/perseverance is the name of the game.
If a smaller company has enough means to pilot your project it may be much more receptive than Filo and more profitable for you. They may be less bureaucratic and open to innovators.
